Summary and Suggestion for The SEA-Teacher Program

Purposes of Practicum

The main purpose of practicum is to make the students-teacher develop their teaching skill. Unconsciously the students-teacher also improve their English skill, because it encourage them to use English in daily life and in class while they were teach. They also would get the chance to practice their theory which they already got from their study. After that they realized that it made them understand the theory better than before.

Procedures of Practicum

First thing student-teacher had to do was observe classroom in their own course. If they already knew the rules, the curricula, the lesson plan and the strategies that applied in the classroom they would assist the teachers. The next step was the student-teacher would be given the topic to teach by the teacher and after that they would make the lesson plan. With the lesson plan that approved by the teacher mentor the students-teacher would teach.

Outcomes of Practicum

            The students-teacher have more experiences in teaching. The students-teacher have better skill in teaching, make lesson plan based on the curriculum. Improve their creativity in make the appropriate media, strategy and technique with the topic to teach. They also have experiences to manage the classroom.

The Challenges of Practicum

            Every country has their own regulation in education system, and Thailand as well. The time allocation itslef challenging, Thailand has shorten time per subject than Indonesia. As student-teacher they have to adjust with the regulation in just two weeks. Sometimes the students could not understand what the student-teacher said, so the student-teacher had to find another word to explain, or sometimes use the body langugae.

Overall Impression

            Students in Watpangiw school were really welcome to the students-teacher, so it made the student-teacher felt confident and easy to reach the students there. Students in Watpangiw school have high tolerance to the different culture, they respect the other, and discipline. That realize me that I have to be a better person.

Suggestions for Future Improvement 

            Overall I am satisfied with the schedule and regulation in this program. I also love the accommodation from Watpangiw school, I could not ask for more. However, maybe The receiving university can provide more fluent buddies in English, so we can communicate easily.
